Bio Sketch
Dr N. Ramesh Babu (Dr NRB) joined the National Institute of Technology as an Assistant Professor in the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department in April 2006. From September 2022 onwards, he has held the position of professorship within the same department. Dr NRB earned his PhD in 2007 from the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. Dr NRB was honoured in 2007 with the prestigious Best PhD Thesis Award by the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, recognizing his outstanding scholarly achievements. Dr. NRB acquired his M.Tech degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and his AMIIM (Associate Member of the Indian Institute of Metals) degree from the Indian Institute of Metals, Kolkata. At NIT Trichy, Dr NRB teaches courses on Physical Metallurgy, Nonferrous Physical Metallurgy, Biomaterials, Ceramic Materials, and Electrical, Magnetic, and Optical Materials. Dr NRB’s academic contributions are substantial, with over 100 research papers published in SCI/SCIE/Scopus-indexed journals. These publications have collectively amassed more than 4300 citations, reflecting the significant impact of his work in the field. Notably, Dr. NRB’s accomplishments are further highlighted by an impressive H-Index of 36. Dr NRB has played pivotal roles as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator in 12 distinct research projects, generously supported by esteemed funding bodies such as DBT-New Delhi, DST-New Delhi, DRDO-New Delhi, and SERB-New Delhi. These projects, centered around Biomaterials and Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation Coatings, serve as a testament to his diverse expertise and unwavering dedication to the advancement of scientific knowledge. At NIT Trichy, Dr. NRB spearheaded the creation of labs dedicated to Biomaterials, Plasma electrolysis, XRD and FESEM. Dr. NRB has successfully supervised 10 PhD candidates and 1 MS student. Currently, he is actively mentoring 5 PhD scholars, which notably includes external researchers from esteemed research laboratories. His dedication to guiding and shaping the future leaders of the scientific community is evident through his ongoing mentorship efforts.
