Orientation Programme
The Orientation Programmes for the Undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate (PG), and Ph.D. programmes are designed to provide a comprehensive and meaningful introduction to the academic environment, institutional ethos, facilities, opportunities, and support systems of the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli. These programmes mark the beginning of an important academic journey and are intended to help newly admitted students familiarise themselves with the Institute’s academic framework, curriculum, rules and regulations, learning resources, research facilities, co-curricular and extracurricular activities, and various student support services.
The UG Orientation Programme will provide students with an overview of the Institute’s academic programmes, flexible curriculum, credit requirements, academic expectations, campus facilities, student clubs, professional societies, innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives, and opportunities for holistic development, enabling them to confidently transition into campus life and higher education.
The PG Orientation Programme will focus on helping students understand the structure and requirements of their respective programmes, academic and research opportunities, curriculum framework, laboratory and library facilities, scholarships and assistantships, internships, industry interaction, and avenues for interdisciplinary learning and professional development.
The Ph.D. Orientation Programme will introduce research scholars to the Institute’s research ecosystem, doctoral programme requirements, coursework, comprehensive examinations, research ethics, intellectual property, publication practices, interdisciplinary research opportunities, research laboratories, computing and library resources, fellowships, and other institutional support mechanisms. Across all three programmes, special emphasis will be placed on academic integrity, professional conduct, inclusivity, innovation, leadership, responsible citizenship, and the effective use of institutional resources.
The orientation sessions will also facilitate interaction with the Director, Deans, Heads of Departments, and other members of the Institute community, providing an opportunity for the newly admitted students to seek guidance, clarify their academic and administrative queries, and establish meaningful connections. Through these programmes, the Institute seeks to create a welcoming and intellectually stimulating environment in which students can connect, engage, explore, and grow, while developing a strong sense of belonging to the Institute and preparing themselves for a rewarding academic, research, and professional journey.
