In the competitive manufacturing industry environment, it is now essential to employ computer aided product development and manufacturing methods. Aiming at this, the department regularly conducts training courses on Programming and operation of CNC machines and CAD/CAM software. For the past ten years, the department has conducted nearly 40 such courses and generated about of Rs. 20 lakhs .

The department is planning to set up a CNC Technology Nodal centre in association with Emco, Austria, a leading developer of Training CNC machines. Staff were trained for one week at their factory in Austria. The proposed CNC Technology Centre will be a training centre with facilities both on line and off-line on Fanuc and Sinumeric controls. It will be upgraded linking Industrial CNC machines with CAD/CAM, FMS and CIM. The Nodal Centre will not only provide training on the above state of art flexible automation technology but also provide facilities required for other institutions and industries. Research and development to keep pace with global trend will be a part of core activity of the centre.
