Dr. S. Mekala is a Professor of English in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at National Institute of Technology-Tiruchirappalli possessing over twenty years of teaching and research experience. She holds Ph.D. in English Language Teaching from Anna University, Chennai. She has completed her M.Phil. in English Literature from the University of Madras and Master’s degree in English Language and Comparative Literature from Pondicherry University. She has completed her Bachelor’s degree from Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College, affiliated to Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli.

Her current research interests include Curriculum Design, Teaching and Learning Methods, Corporate Communication and 21st Century Skills Education.  She has published more than thirty articles in Scopus, ESCI, EBSCO and refereed journals.  She has authored and co-authored four books and published articles in book chapter.  She has presented papers in International conferences and has published more than fifteen papers in the conference proceedings. She has gained Professional training from reputed Institutes like IIT Madras, IIM Indore, IIM Kozhikode and ASCI Hyderabad and NITTR.  This academic contribution has paved way for conducting more than twenty Faculty Development Programmes, Training the Trainers Programmes for teachers and workshops/short-term courses for students to her credit. She has delivered lectures as ‘resource person’ in reputed institutes, AICTE and ICSSR sponsored programmes and Orientation courses for teachers. She is a passionate researcher and has produced seven research scholars in the field of English Language Teaching.  She is also a reviewer for four international peer reviewed journals.
