Alchemy started out as the mystical and esoteric science of transmutation of common metals into gold. Alchemists invested a lot of effort in the search for the "philosopher's stone ", a substance used to achieve this end the creation of a panacea, or the elixir of life, to bring on a life of eternal longevity to them. In a way therefore Alchemy has been a forerunner of the modern scientific chemistry, in turn laying the foundations of chemical engineering.

The chemical department of NIT-Trichy welcomes you to share a part of this quest for the philosophers stone in the form of Alchemy – our department symposium- to highlight the scientific advances in the field of Chemical Engineering. Alchemy 2010 brings you a wide range of events from workshops to guest lectures, paper presentations, panel discussions and much more! A two day event that provides you a podium to present your recipe of the elixir.

Alchemy this year is celebrated on March 5th and 6th 2010. Typically, this fest is one of the most celebrated chemical engineering events in South India. Competition is intense, but so are the rewards. And knowing that most of you are fully geared up, and gung- ho (as much as we are!) our core team comprising a panel of cutting- edge thinkers amongst faculty and students, have devised a series of challenging, smart and intelligent events for you. We cordially invite you to check the events out, as well as our guest lectures and panel discussions. Typically, we plan to have four guest lectures spread out through Alchemy. The site will be updated as soon as we get confirmation from speakers.

For the first time this year, we also plan to host a workshop on FLUENT and GAMBIT. Also on the cards, amidst our sprawling campus- the 2nd largest in the country- we offer to our guest students and faculty, accomodation in the newly built Garnet hostel. Snacks will be provided free of cost to all participants.

Ultimately though, Alchemy is all about ideas. Ideas, and their power to inspire, innovate and invigorate. So come, brimming with them, come with the enthusiasm to share with us their awesomeness, and return, fresher still, having interacted with like minded people and rejuvenated to contribute to our field of chemical engineering.

So brew, ferment and distill your ideas for Alchemy 2010!
