The prime motive of the club is to promote classical music within the campus. With this aim, we have been conducting a host of activities with active participation from students and faculty alike.
Members of the club are regularly encouraged to perform at the temple within our campus. These concerts are usually held on festival days. Lecture demonstrations by some of our well-versed members on various topics have been very useful in helping students understand and appreciate the intricacies of carnatic music. Some of our members have also been featured in regular 2-hour concerts. We also observe and celebrate the birth anniversaries of luminaries like Papanasam Sivan. Recently, a group of students from the club performed bhajans in the sampradaya style, which was very well received by one and all.
The Thyagaraja Aradhana however still remains our biggest draw. With participation from a host of top class artistes from Trichy and Srirangam, the aradhana has been celebrated with great fervour and enthusiasm by both students and faculty over the last 3 years. The Pancharatna kritis are sung in the same style as is done at Tiruvaiyaru, the birthplace of the saint-composer, followed by rendering of Thyagaraja kritis by the artistes and students.
This year, the aradhana has been scheduled for the 5th of March. There will be a music competition for students from schools in and around Trichy on the previous day. Be a part of this unique festival and receive the blessings of Thyagabrahmam!
