Research Internships in Science and Engineering

Who we are

The Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF), established under an agreement between the Governments of India and the United States of America in March 2000, is an autonomous, not for profit society that promotes and catalyzes Indo-US bilateral collaborations in science, technology, engineering and biomedical research through substantive interaction among government, academia and industry. As a grant making organization, the principle objective of IUSSTF is to provide opportunities, to exchange ideas, information, skills and technologies, and to collaborate on scientific and technological endeavours of mutual interest that can translate the power of science for the benefit of mankind at large.

RESEARCH INTERNSHIPS IN SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING FOR INDIAN STUDENTS IN UNITED STATES

Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) and Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) are partners to launch Research Internships in Science and Engineering (RISE) to create unique opportunities for science, technology, engineering and medical students from India to undertake internships in national laboratories, federal research centers, academic research institutes, and private R & D laboratories in the United States. Objectives of the internships are to provide students with unique opportunities to live and work in an international context, to gain practical experience, and acquire professional skills. Internships are envisaged as a source of mutual cultural and professional enrichment for both the interns and their host institutions.

 

RISE will provide Indian students

• International professional experiences
• Enhanced practical skills
• Insight to opportunities offered by host institutions
• Work experience in international teams
• Exposure to American science and culture
• Life-long professional networks

Eligibility

• Indian Citizen
• Open to science, engineering, technology and
medical disciplines
• Ph.D. and Master students currently enrolled at a
recognized institution of higher education in India

 

Internship duration

• Minimum 3 months and up to 6 months

Internship includes

• Monthly stipend • Accommodation • Airfare

Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) and Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) are partners to launch Research Internships in Science and Engineering (RISE) to create unique opportunities for science, technology, engineering and medical students from the United States to undertake internships in national laboratories, federal research centers, academic research institutes, and private R & D laboratories in India. Disciplines Available

All branches of Engineering, Management, Computer Applications, Physics and Chemistry.

Responsibility of NIT-T in India will be:

  • Host a masters/ doctoral student for 3-6 months
  • Provide research based experiences
  • Provide housing allowance or housing on campus
  • Mentor intern and integrate into workgroups and activities
  • Accommodation will be provided at one of the newly constructed hostels.
  • Mess facility will be provided at Mega Mess.
  • Number of students 2 per term in each discipline.

ORAU/IUSSTF will:

  • Provide return airfare to the interns
  • Provide monthly stipend
  • Provide oversight to the program
  • Facilitate the selection process
